Testimonials
“I recently had the opportunity to participate in one of College Nordique’s virtual classrooms. Everything from downloading the program, to chatting with the teacher online and the video conferencing was very intuitive and easy to use, even for someone like me who is tech challenged! In the virtual classroom, I was able to practice my audio and verbal skills, just like I would in a real classroom. It was fantastic to be able to continue learning French while practicing social-distancing, and I recommend it for anyone who is interested in learning another language!”

“I’m very grateful for this cultural immersion experience. Berna and I did many things including filleting and cooking fish, beadwork, and finally making a sewing bag. I’m also very happy to have spent some time in Dettah. Mahsì cho!”

“In addition to being exposed to the language and learning a few new words, I shared, explored, and experienced spiritual aspects through the making of a dress that I will wear to Indigenous ceremonies. For me, reconciliation starts from an inner transformation that takes place through opportunities to acquire new knowledge and open-mindedness, which makes us act differently in our society. The experience also lasts over time, I have a new friend and I feel closer to the Dene community!”

“I am a LINC student in CLB 7 at College Nordique, and am lucky to have an excellent instructor. The course material the instructor chose for the class is exactly what I need. The contents are practical, such as informal communication in daily life, semi-formal, and formal speaking and writing in the workplace. Now, I feel much more confident interacting in an English speaking environment.”
– Qu Xuemei (Jenny), LINC student

“I have taken three conversational French courses with College nordique francophone over the past year. My goal is to improve my ability to understand and converse in French. I like the fact that the classes are small and it’s a stress-free environment. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with my instructor – the hands-on approach to learning is effective and fun, involving movies, music, and games. I’m looking forward to continuing my learning in the future.”

“What I liked most about the Tlicho 2 course was the fact that our teacher had integrated the Dene culture into the classroom. Making bannock, collecting spruce gum on the land in the spring, and learning the names of trees makes language learning even more meaningful.”
– Marie-Ève Duperré, student at College nordique francophone

“What a great opportunity to learn with other people who want to learn Spanish at the same level. It’s fun, hard and I can’t wait until next level.”

“I’ve been a French student at Collège Nordique for the past year. I’m taking French classes as part of my professional development. Although, at first, I felt that French is a very tough language to learn, with the help of the instructors I am now doing well. The classes are fun and interactive with word games, role-playing and oral exercises. I thank the team for helping me to learn French in a fun way.”

“I took the Beginner Spanish course in Spring 2017. This course provided me with useful knowledge for speaking and writing in Spanish, which will help me a lot when I travel to Central and South America and other Spanish-speaking countries. The instructor was great and the course ended with a delicious potluck meal to which we all brought traditional foods from the Spanish-speaking world. It was affordable and fun as well.”

“I really enjoyed the course for a number of reasons. First, I wanted a class in which I could practice speaking French. I also wanted a course that would expand my understanding of the language and improve my ability to speak it. I also appreciated my fellow students, who were all willing to try speaking each and every day and who were all welcoming and fun. Rosie, our instructor, was simply excellent. She kept the class fun and her enthusiasm for the language was infectious. This really helped me because learning a new language as an adult is difficult and can be very frustrating. She removed the frustration from the room and made learning meaningful and fun.”

“My wife and I took conversational French in Fall and Winter 2016/17. (…) The class was very conversational, unlike those French lessons from the past when we used to spend hours conjugating verbs. There was no pressure to get things right the first time and there was always time to ask questions or to understand why things are said the way they are. The classes were fun; we often played games to use the language in real-life situations. I’m not sure we’ll be able to keep up with the learning ability of a toddler, but I continue to practice online daily with language apps. I’m planning to get back into the classroom in the fall!”

“This was a good first course in French to get familiar with the basics of language, grammar, pronunciation and the use of everyday vocabulary. I enjoyed the course and had a great time. I’m now enrolling for my second course at Collège Nordique.”
– Manik Duggar, French student

“My instructor at Collège Nordique was thoughtful and attentive to my needs. The various activities and role-playing helped me to express myself in English in a less formal and more educational setting.”

“I would definitely say that the small group environment helped a lot. Though we had people with different levels of French, everyone felt comfortable asking questions. Utilizing technology and refraining from using paper as much as possible was also appreciated. This course will help me to move forward, not only in my career, but in my personal life as well.”
– Andrei Torianski, French student

“Collège Nordique offers a friendly environment where there’s no fear of making mistakes. The most important thing I learned is that you have to think differently when speaking another language. It’s not just a question of vocabulary. Now, I understand that the structure of the French language is different and that sentences are not constructed in the same way as in English.”
– Maureen Crotty-Williams, French student,

“I needed to improve my second language to continue making progress in my career, without taking too much time away from primary duties. Thanks to the proximity of Collège Nordique, I was able to benefit from a five-week burst of intensive training tailored to my needs without having to leave my family for specialized training in the South. Without a doubt, the training I received at Collège Nordique paved the way to my success in learning French. Si j’avais à le refaire, je le referais demain!”
– Vince Wawryk, French student

“The thing I liked most about the course was its incredible atmosphere: I had the courage to take risks because there was no judgment. We could make mistakes, have fun and try things outside our comfort zone. It was the first time I felt comfortable clowning around while learning French!”
– Lorraine Hewlett, étudiante de français,
Program Manager, North Slave District Office

“The teaching methods at Collège Nordique allowed us to revise the concepts used in class in a user-friendly way. The course material was divided into manageable chunks to make learning easier to integrate. Then there was lots of practice to give us the opportunity to make associations, reflect and relate the material to our own experiences.”
